What is the first thing that comes to mind when you think of Monaco?
Yachts? Grand Prix? Or Casinos?
Monaco is a pretty cool little principality just a short train ride from Nice in the south of France. When I started planning this trip, my first thought was Grace Kelly - obviously! I always had a bit of a girl crush on her. A gorgeous, graceful & sophisticated American actress turned Princess. Every girl's dream. And not to forget what a style icon she was!
So after wandering around the harbor, admiring the boats of the rich & beautiful, checking out the race course - the Monaco Grand Prix was to be held the week after I visited - and snapping lots of pictures of the iconic Casino Monte Carlo I walked up the hill to the Royal Palace.
And boy, it was beautiful! The hike up there was so worth it! Surrounded by the old town with its tiny alleys filled with shops, cafes and restaurants, the mighty Palace grounds really do stand out! A short stroll down from there is the St Nicholas Cathedral (aka Cathedral of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception) where Grace Kelly got married to Rainier in an absolute fairy tale wedding. It is also where she was later buried and today you can visit her tombstone inside the church.
So without further ado, here are my highlights of Monaco! :)
