Kalimera! Today I'm taking you on a little trip to Greece, one of my favorite Mediterranean countries. On my first visit back in 2011 I explored Athens and then hopped on a short flight to the island of Rhodes.
Athens itself is -just like Rome- full of ruins and historical monuments and a really cool place to explore on foot. You can literally find ancient crumbling pillars next to restaurants and busy squares. It feels like a place where the old world meets the 21st century. So without further ado, here are some impressions of this great Greek city!
After a couple of days immersing ourselves in Greek history & mythology and even attempting to learn the Greek alphabet, we felt ready to swap the city for the beach and went off to our first Greek Island: Rhodes. We transferred from the airport to Rhodes Town and then straight on to our final destination, Lindos - which was even more beautiful than I had imagined it and where some of our friends would get married three days later! Some people say it's overly touristy (and surely it is full of visitors in Summer) but the whole atmosphere, the food, the sunsets... it's just so... Greek! Over the next five days we had a fabulous time swimming in the bay, getting lost in the little alleys, dining on rooftops enjoying the most beautiful views (most restaurants have rooftop bars but book ahead - they're super popular around sunset!) and playing with cats! They're just everywhere on the island - so if you're a cat lover you'll be in heaven! They're usually well looked after by the people there who provide food and water for them and the felines are absolutely used to humans and aren't afraid to come over for a cuddle. Are you ready for the beauty of the Lindos?
Exactly. Needless to say I fell in love with Greece. So much so that this year we went back to visit Crete & Santorini - but that's another post ;)
